Canada PR Test

About CELPIP

CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) is designated by IRCC as an approved English test for all Canadian immigration streams alongside IELTS General Training. CELPIP is fully computer-based – no face-to-face Speaking interview with a human examiner. All audio uses Canadian English accents. Results arrive in 4 to 8 business days. For Canadian Citizenship specifically, only CELPIP General LS is accepted – IELTS is not.

CELPIP General: Used for Express Entry PR, immigration streams and university admissions where accepted.
CELPIP General LS: Tests only Listening and Speaking, and is accepted for Canadian Citizenship applications.
Canadian English focus: NCC uses Canadian-accented listening material throughout the programme.

    Express Entry Scores

CELPIP Score Scale and Express Entry CRS Impact

CELPIP Score CLB Level CRS Points per Skill Significance
7 CLB 7 136 Minimum for Federal Skilled Worker Express Entry
8 CLB 8 164 Significant CRS improvement over CLB 7
9 CLB 9 186 Maximum core CRS language points — recommended target
10 CLB 10 200 Strong proficiency bonus begins
11–12 CLB 11–12 230 Maximum language points achievable

Moving from CLB 7 to CLB 9 in all four skills adds approximately 200 CRS points from language alone. In competitive Express Entry draws, this difference is often decisive. NCC helps PR applicants understand the exact CRS impact of different CELPIP score targets from the start of preparation.

    Exam Format

CELPIP Exam Format: Section by Section

    Reading: 55-60 Minutes, 4 Tasks

Reading Correspondence (email or letter), Reading to Apply a Diagram (text plus visual), Reading for Information (longer passage) and Reading for Viewpoints (argument text). Each task requires a different reading strategy. NCC trains candidates for each type individually.

    Listening: 47-55 Minutes, 6 Tasks

Problem Solving (conversation), Daily Life Conversations, Information (voicemail or announcement), News Item, Discussion (structured debate) and Viewpoints (evaluating spoken arguments). All audio uses Canadian English accents. NCC training uses Canadian-accented materials throughout.

    Writing: 53-60 Minutes, 2 Tasks

Task 1 asks candidates to respond to a survey or email. Task 2 asks candidates to respond to a discussion forum post. Both are computer-typed. NCC provides model responses at band 9 level and individual timed writing feedback sessions.

    Speaking: 15-20 Minutes, 8 Tasks

Computer-delivered tasks – no human examiner. Covers Giving Advice, Personal Experience, Describing a Scene, Making Predictions, Comparing and Persuading, Dealing with a Difficult Situation and others. NCC provides feedback on all five CELPIP scoring dimensions: Content, Coherence, Vocabulary, Listenability and Task Completion.

    Why Choose NCC

Why Choose New Cambridge College for CELPIP

Here is why students across Chandigarh, the tricity and across India choose New Cambridge College for CELPIP.

    • Dedicated CELPIP programme – not repurposed IELTS: NCC’s CELPIP programme is built specifically for CELPIP. Canadian accent training, computer-interface practice and five-dimension Speaking feedback are all CELPIP-specific.
    • Canadian English accent training throughout: All Listening materials use Canadian English – CBC Radio content, Canadian podcasts and official CELPIP practice audio. Most coaching centres skip this; NCC makes it central.
    • CRS score impact analysis: NCC helps PR applicants understand the exact CRS impact of different CELPIP score targets. Moving from CLB 7 to CLB 9 in all four skills adds approximately 200 CRS points.
    • CELPIP General LS for Citizenship: NCC specifically coaches CELPIP General LS for Canadian Citizenship – a distinct programme, not just half a General course.
    • Full-length mock tests with CLB reports: CELPIP mock tests produce CLB-equivalent score reports per skill – the same format IRCC uses. Students understand their PR readiness, not just test performance.
    • Express Entry and Study Permit guidance integrated: CELPIP preparation at NCC is coordinated with Express Entry and Study Permit timelines. Students understand how their score target affects their CRS rank from day one.
    FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions – CELPIP Coaching in Chandigarh

What CELPIP score is needed for Canada Express Entry?
CLB 7 (CELPIP 7 in all skills) is the minimum for Federal Skilled Worker. CLB 9 (CELPIP 9) maximises core CRS language points. Scoring CLB 10 adds further points through the strong English proficiency bonus. NCC sets CELPIP 9 as the standard target for PR applicants.
    What is CELPIP General LS?
CELPIP General LS tests only Listening and Speaking. It is the only English test accepted for Canadian Citizenship applications – IELTS is not accepted for citizenship. It is also accepted for some Provincial Nominee Program streams. NCC coaches for both CELPIP General and CELPIP General LS.
Is CELPIP easier than IELTS for Canada PR?
Both are accepted by IRCC with equal weight. CELPIP eliminates the face-to-face Speaking examiner. Canadian accent familiarity is critical for CELPIP Listening – NCC’s programme trains specifically for this.
How long does CELPIP preparation take?
4 to 6 weeks for most students. Candidates with strong English proficiency who primarily need Canadian format familiarisation can prepare in 2 to 3 weeks. A diagnostic at enrolment determines the timeline.
What is the CELPIP test fee in India?
Approximately Rs 15,500 to Rs 17,000 depending on the test centre and date. Confirm on the Paragon Testing Enterprises website at time of booking.
